Construction of footways in Parklands, Brooklyn and Montague Gardens

The City of Cape Town has commenced with the construction of pedestrian footways in Parklands, Brooklyn and Montague Gardens. The work started today, 5 November 2025 and will continue until Wednesday, 11 March 2026 provided there are no unforeseen delays. Construction will be done between 07:30 and 17:00, Monday to Friday.

‘The construction of these sidewalks is testament to the City’s commitment to inclusivity and repositioning walking and cycling as primary sustainable modes of transport. These pedestrianised precincts will ensure that we keep Cape Town moving on safe, durable and accessible pedestrian footways in Brooklyn, Parklands and Montague Gardens,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas. 

In Brooklyn, the City’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be constructing pedestrian footways along a portion of Koeberg Road, between William Masson and Lavis Crescent. In Parklands, the work will be done along Dorchester Drive and along Montague Drive in Montague Gardens.

The work comprises the construction of pedestrian footways, including the dropping of kerbs and installation of edgings where necessary. The purpose of this work is to provide sidewalks for safe pedestrian passage, restore the condition of selected sidewalks and extend the lifespan of the pavement structure.
